This was one of our  early morning (6am) ‘raids’ on Downpatrick Sewerage works to collect evidence of a continuous series of unreported spills onto the banks of the river that were then cleared up by NIWater Staff. We did the same at sewerage works in Drumaness and Ballynahinch and elsewhere on the Quoile.

We photographed the scene before it could be cleared up of a host of unsavoury sewerage-related plastic products and then made formal complaints to NIWater and the Department of the Environment over these continuous cover-ups.

Ultimately our campaigning contributed to the investment to upgrade the sewerage works and sewerage pipes in the town and contributed greatly to the Quoile being less dangerous for swimmers and paddlers alike in 2023

In this case there was also oil discharges that killed wild life
