When the Kilclief Residents Association Chairperson, Maurice Denvir reached out to Lecale Conservation in 2017 to design a community garden on an area of derelict land in the centre of their community we were only too pleased to help with a hands-on environmental improvement project. We have also been down to help the residents association annual and bi-annual maintenance days. See the residents association Facebook page here
Leading member Agnes Peacock took the lead on design and selection of plants that would provide year-round displays, minimum maintenance and that would survive the harsh sea air. Agnes is a long standing member of Irish garden plant society too.
A raised area for seating to overlook the Narrows entrance to Strangford Loch from the Irish Sea was part of the design. As well as 3 raised beds for Kilclief’s primary school eco-club to grow vegetables and herbs.
Here are a few before and after photos.
