Lecale Conservation Association

Lecale Conservation a voluntary group founded by local people to safeguard the natural and built heritage of an area in South Down known as Lecale

We are delighted to share that our long time activist, treasurer, and youth club leader Cadogan Enright has been nominated for Best Initiative of a Councillor in NI at the NILGA Awards.

Cadogan's book 'How the Green Economy can fund Local Government' is sponsored by Lecale Conservation, and uses data researched during Lecale Conservation's Summer Climate Camps.

Congratulations to Cadogan Enright, our junior members Cathal, CadÓg and Maja, who are credited in the nominated book, which is to be shared to every councillor in NI!🎉 NOMINATED FOR NATIONAL COUNCILLOR AWARDS

I am delighted to be nominated for 'Best initiative by a Councillor' for my book "How the Green Economy Can Fund Local Government', at the Local Government Awards.

The 'How To Do' book is more like a manual for Councillors on how to use the Green Economy to reduce rates or provide better front line services to the ratepayer.

I was asked by the NI Region of the National Association of Councillors to write the book after they saw my detailed 32 page submission for the rates in Newry Mourne and Down detailing the dozens of Green and Energy Transition' projects we could use to reduce rates and improve services in our Council. They have ordered a copy for every Councillor across the 11 Councils by way of being a training manual.

I want to thank Alan J McDowell, Chair of the National Association of Councillors NI Region for his support in this project, and Lecale Conservation Association for sponsoring the book, as well as CadÓg Enright, Cathal Quinn and Maja Wierzchowiak for their work in collating data for the book.
