Cathal is an A-Level student studying Politics, French, and Sociology at Down High Grammar, Downpatrick. He is ‘Carbon Literate’ certified, and sits on the Association’s committee as Deputy Secretary, and Youth Leader.
He is a keen environmentalist, with experience in campaigning from co-ordinating Lecale Conservation Youth for three years.
He is at the forefront of climate action in Northern Ireland, working with political parties and environmental organisations. He is a member of the Northern Ireland Youth Policy Collective, the Secondary Students’ Union of Northern Ireland, the Northern Ireland Students 4 Climate Network, NI Youth Forum and Fridays For Future NI.
Cathal began protesting with Fridays For Future in 2019 and led some of Northern Ireland’s first protests, and went on to lead many of the largest youth-led and environmental demonstrations in the North.
He has recently worked on the Alliance Party Rates Submissions on Green Economy projects in Newry, Mourne and Down.
Cathal has appeared on BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Newsline, UTV Life, and UTV View From Stormont, discussing the climate and holding local government to account.
